Uplinks with bypass relays ensure reliable backbone connections for terminal equipment on trains
The new OCTOPUS Train-BP now provides a managed IP67 switch that is optimally tailored to the requirements of the rail industry. It fulfills all specific EMC and fire prevention requirements for rail vehicles, and also has two uplink ports with bypass relays. You can thus use the OCTOPUS Train-BP in Ethernet Consist networks (IEC draft standard 61375-3-4) to facilitate fast and secure onboard Ethernet data communication in trains.
The OCTOPUS Train-BP offers 8, 16 or 24 Fast Ethernet ports (10/100 BASE-TX) of which two serve as uplinks with bypass relays. These relays make it possible to maintain connections between neighboring switches even in the event of a fault. As a result, you can use the OCTOPUS Train-BP to provide secure backbone connections for terminal equipment, even with double errors and even when these involve switches. They can be used to implement various applications to reliably offer passengers a high degree of comfort and convenience – for instance, displaying the connecting trains that are available.
The extreme reliability of the OCTOPUS-Train BP is partly due to its extended operating temperature range from -40°C to +70°C, vibration-proof M12 connection technology and redundant power supply. The fast switchover times provided by additional redundancy protocols, such as MRP, HIPER Ring and RSTP, guarantee a high level of network availability. Numerous security mechanisms offer maximum protection against network-borne attacks. Last but not least, the comprehensive management functions of the OCTOPUS Train-BP, with its compact metal housing designed for wall mounting, also provide for rapid commissioning, convenient monitoring and seamless integration into Profinet and EtherNet/IP environments.
